Trasylol Linked to Heart Attack and Kidney Failure
Trasylol is a drug used in heart surgeries to reduce blood loss during the heart surgery. Trasylol (aprotinin) increases the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney failure according to a report in the New England Journal of Medicince. Trasylol is administered intravenously during the heart surgery and therefore many patients do not realize that they have received the drug. Other drugs have been shown to perform as well at preventing blood loss during heart surgery and are safer and less expensive than Trasylol.
Bayer has pulled Trasylol from the market.
